Lemon8: The New Social Media Platform to Watch

Raise your hand if you’re kinda over with all of the ups and downs on IG.

One minute it’s all Reels and the next…back to images getting priority traffic like OG Insta. As a business owner you’re no stranger to change and social media is constantly evolving.

That’s why you need to keep an eye on Lemon8 - an IG-like social media platform developed by ByteDance (the parent company of TikTok) that’s new on the scene.

No, we’re not talking about the classic summer beverage.

Lemon8 is a video and photo-sharing social media app that focuses on specific topics of interest, such as fashion, beauty, food, wellness, and travel. Unlike TikTok, which features vertical video scrolling and a wide range of content, Lemon8's content is curated around specific themes. The app has been described by influencers as a cross between Instagram and Pinterest.

Already content creators and entrepreneurs have jumped on the platform to grow an audience and we’re seeing more and more business-related content.

The Authenticity vs. Perfectionism debate

As Lemon8 gains popularity, some creators on the platform are advocating for authenticity, moving away from the perfectionist nature of social media. They aim to show their followers the real, unfiltered aspects of their lives, challenging the curated content trend. However, there are also creators who choose to recreate content from TikTok and adapt it to fit the themes of Lemon8, leveraging their existing content creation skills to engage with a new audience.

Do you need to be on Lemon8?

…it depends.

As a big believer in social media’s ability to transform a business and offer explosive growth, we’re always in favor of trying out new platforms. While there’s a bigger emphasis on a curated aesthetic (so it’s worth the time spent in Canva making sure you’re images are on-brand), a lot of the same principles for creating strategic content for Instagram apply here.

We see the platform as a huge opportunity for those in visual industries, like interior design, graphic design, and product-based businesses.

The app is targeting the Gen-Z audience, so if you’re ideal customer avatar includes the younger crowd, then it’s to hop on the Lemon8 train. A lot of entrepreneurs we’ve worked with don’t enjoy the video content creation to reach the Gen-Z audience via TikTok, so with Lemon8’s emphasis on static images, this is a great alternative while still getting your business in front of the right people.

Ideas of what to post on Lemon8

Like with all social media, the content needs to be strategic! (If you’re looking for a killer social media strategy and DFY social media services you’re in the right place, BTW). What you post will be influenced by your niche, but here are some ideas to get you started…

  • An introduction post about who you are, what you do, and why you do it

  • Informational carousels that are on brand

  • Video content (if that’s your thing) that engages and entertains

  • A “top 5 tips to do X,Y,Z” about your niche

  • Promote your offers and freebies, though we recommend building up your following a bit, first

Have you been using Lemon8 for your business? We’d love to hear how it’s working for you!

And if you’re ready to take advantage of a new platform (before it gets oversaturated) to scale your business, but you’d rather not spend all day in Canva and your social media scheduler of choice, then book a consult to learn more about our social media management services, which now include Lemon8 support!
